What's new for 2026–27?
Full season leagues. Draft your roster in November and score matches all the way to the conference championships in March. The NCAA Championships stay their own game, with a separate draft once seeds drop. Returning leagues can be reactivated for the new season in one step, and new draft formats — auction, salary cap, slow, and open — join the live snake draft.
What is Mat Draft?
Mat Draft is a fantasy sports app for NCAA Division I wrestling. You draft a roster of college wrestlers, and your team scores points based on how those wrestlers actually perform — winning matches, winning by bonus, and placing at tournaments. Season-long leagues run from November through the conference championships; the NCAA Championships are a separate game with their own draft.
How does fantasy wrestling scoring work?
Wrestlers earn points in three categories. Advancement points are awarded for each win: 1.0 point for a championship bracket win and 0.5 for a consolation win, excluding placement matches. Bonus points reward dominant wins: 2.0 for a fall, forfeit, default, or disqualification, 1.5 for a technical fall, and 1.0 for a major decision, with no bonus for a regular decision. Placement points go to the top eight finishers in each weight class: 16 for first, 12 for second, 10 for third, 9 for fourth, 7 for fifth, 6 for sixth, 4 for seventh, and 3 for eighth.
How many wrestlers do I draft?
It depends on the mode. Dream Team and Tiers League are ten picks — one for each NCAA Division I weight class, running from 125 pounds up through heavyweight (285 pounds). Private Leagues draft a ten-wrestler backbone, one per weight class, plus bench depth: twelve wrestlers by default, and a commissioner can set anywhere from ten to fifteen. Bench spots let you carry more than one wrestler at the same weight, up to three.
What game modes does Mat Draft offer?
Three. Private Leagues let you draft live against friends and compete on a private leaderboard from November through the conference championships. Dream Team lets you pick an ideal ten-wrestler roster and compare it against the whole community. Tiers League is a championships game: once seeds drop in March, wrestlers are grouped into tiers by seed and you pick one from each, which rewards strategy over simply taking every top seed.
When does the season start?
College wrestling opens in early November, and Mat Draft leagues draft before the first whistle. A season-long league runs to the conference championships in late February and early March. The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, held over three days in March, are a separate game with their own draft.
Is Mat Draft free?
Creating an account is free, and community modes like Dream Team are free to play. Private full-season leagues are $10 per league for the season — the commissioner pays once, and the whole league is in.
Do I need to know college wrestling to play?
No. Wrestlers are listed with their record, school, and weight class, and Mat Draft publishes live brackets, team standings, and community pick statistics you can use to guide your picks. Following the rankings is a reasonable starting strategy for a first-time player.
